One would generally agree that the five decades of planned development in India has been such which provide for a mixed bag, a bag containing some success stories along with some signifying failures. While some sectors have registered growth and have achieved self-sufficiency, the others have remained less fortunate and have left suffering. Several models of development have been tried during all these years to achieve growth and improve the quality of life of teeming millions. Lack of achievement has rendered some of these models out of the run. During the 90s, we find new focus and a paradigm shift in India's development along with many other countries of the world.
