The book opens with a critical examination of the career of Salar Mas'ud of Bahraich as depicted in Mir,at-i-Mas'udi. It is followed with English translations of some Urdu articles and notes on Salar Mas'ud and three Persian classical works on sufism entitled Tohfatus Sa'd, Fawaid-i-Sadiyah and Malfoozat Shah Maina, popularly known as Shah Meena, and partial translation of the notes taken from Behr-i-Zakhkhar to highlight the lives and teachings of some well known and unknown and sparingly referred and not referred sufis in classical and modern works on sufism. Majma'us-sulook of Sa'd Khairabadi, a selection from which entitled Fawaid-i-Sadiyah has been translated here, is a rarely written balanced work on sufism and has not so far been paid due attentions it deserves. Translations from Behr-i-Zakhkhar are based on such works which are not easily available and help us to know as to what these sources contain about 64 and odd personalities mentioned in the translation. The book also contains detailed genealogical tables about the family of Makhdoom Fakhr-ud-din Bijnori,.Shah Maina, Qudwai sufis of Dariabad and Siddiqis of Sidhdhaur and Saidanpur.
